CIVPAC Endorses

Jon Ossoff in the Democratic Primary and Derek Dooley in the Republican Primary

Georgia conducts open primaries, meaning voters must choose which party’s primary to participate in—a decision that can affect where their vote has the greatest impact. For a fuller discussion of this approach, see: our guidelines for evaluating 2026 endorsements.

Democratic Primary – Jon Ossoff

CIVPAC endorses Jon Ossoff in the Democratic primary.

As the incumbent, Ossoff faces no meaningful intra-party opposition and represents the consensus Democratic candidate. His record reflects a mainstream Democratic policy approach and a demonstrated capacity to compete effectively in a closely divided state.

His candidacy reflects a conventional, governance-focused approach rather than alignment with the party’s more ideological wing. In a competitive state like Georgia, his electoral success has depended on appealing to a broad coalition of voters, including independents and moderates.

While CIVPAC does not agree with all of his policy positions, Ossoff’s record reflects a pragmatic and politically realistic approach that operates within the constraints of a closely divided electorate.

Republican Primary – Derek Dooley

CIVPAC endorses Derek Dooley in the Republican primary.

Dooley brings an outsider perspective and the potential to unify competing factions within the Republican Party while remaining competitive in a general election.

His candidacy is defined less by ideology than by coalition-building and institutional alignment. His campaign emphasizes leadership, unity, and general election viability rather than grievance-driven or high-conflict politics. Supported by mainstream Georgia Republicans, he is positioned as a candidate capable of bridging factions within the party and appealing beyond its base.

He also brings a background that includes formal training in government and law, which provides a useful foundation for understanding public institutions and the legal framework within which they operate. While he lacks a traditional political record, these characteristics reflect a governance-oriented, coalition-based approach more consistent with traditional Republican leadership than with more polarizing styles of politics.
