CIVPAC Endorsement: Wesley for U.S. House — MO-1

CIVPAC Endorses Wesley Bell in Missouri’s 1st Congressional District Democratic Primary

This endorsement should not be read as a general-election endorsement of the Democratic Party. CIVPAC includes members with different views about which party should control Congress. But we are united in believing that, when Democratic primary voters have a choice between practical center-left candidates and far-left or DSA-aligned candidates, the practical center-left candidate is usually more consistent with CIVPAC’s principles.

Missouri’s 1st District is a safe Democratic district. The question is not simply whether Democrats can hold the seat. The question is what kind of Democrat should represent it.

CIVPAC believes Democratic primary voters should prefer candidates who are serious, practical, locally grounded, and willing to work within democratic institutions. Representative Bell is the better choice on those grounds.

Cori Bush served two terms in Congress and remains a prominent figure on the activist left. She brings passion, visibility, and a committed political base. But Missouri’s 1st District has already tried that model of representation and chose a different course in 2024.

Her current campaign is part of a broader effort by far-left and DSA-aligned candidates to move Democratic primaries away from practical governance and toward ideological confrontation. Her refusal to commit to supporting Hakeem Jeffries for Speaker if Democrats regain the House is a useful signal. We don’t think it’s because she wants to support a more moderate choice.

That does not mean incumbents should never be challenged. Nor does it mean CIVPAC endorses every outside group or donor that supported Bell in 2024. The question in this primary is simpler: which candidate is more likely to provide serious, practical, liberal-democratic representation for the district?

CIVPAC believes the answer is Wesley Bell.
